Western Michigan University Dining Center Project Receives Excellence in Construction Award

The Christman Company is proud to announce that the recently completed dining center at Western Michigan University was a first place winner at the Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter (ABC/WMC) 31st Annual Excellence in Construction Awards. The annual event highlights West Michigan’s most innovative and high-quality construction projects, safety efforts and craft professionals. The awards are highly sought after and highlight both individuals and companies in various categories from safety to general construction.

Western Michigan University's Valley Dining Center won in the category of GC/CM: New Construction - More Than $10 Million. Western Michigan University’s Valley Dining Center has the ability to seat 1,000 guests while providing a unique variety of food options at nine micro-restaurants. The 64,860 s.f. facility is designed to enhance social interaction and appeal to the interest of all students, staff and guests. With a focus on the health of students, staff and community members, Valley Dining Center offers a wide variety of healthy options as the staff prepares roughly 4,000 meals per day in a thoughtful, nutritious manner. Also included is a state-of-the-art pantry accommodating food allergies and intolerances, a first of its kind on the campus. The facility is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification and incorporates a variety of sustainable features and "green" building functions.
