Completion of Cascade Saloon Redevelopment Celebrated

Renewed Historic Structure Rededicated as Christman-Cascade Building

Today, project partners of The Christman Company (Christman) gathered to celebrate the completed renovation of the historic Cascade Saloon building – newly christened The Christman-Cascade Building – and recognize the many contributors to the project’s success. Among the guest speakers were Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Executive Director of Preservation Greensboro, Inc. Benjamin Briggs, and Christman executives including President and CEO Steve Roznowski.

The former Cascade Saloon, located at 408 S. Elm Street, has now become the Greensboro office location for Christman, a 124 year-old nationally-ranked commercial construction leader that acquired local building firm Rentenbach Constructors Incorporated in 2013. Considered a contributing structure within the Downtown Greensboro National Register Historic District and recognized as a Guilford County Landmark Property, the ca. 1895 historic building sat neglected for decades, becoming functionally obsolete before it was saved and repurposed through the efforts of a public/private partnership.

“Everybody loves a great comeback and this building was definitely overdue for one,” said Roznowski. “We’ve redeveloped and restored many historic properties, but this one – largely due to its particularly dismal starting condition – presented some of the biggest challenges yet. We are truly grateful for the collaborative partnership, with all the supporting organizations laser focused on the same vision: to save the Cascade Saloon, honor its significant history in Greensboro, and repurpose it for the next hundred years. It’s an honor for our team to go to work daily within its walls.”
