Morristown-Hamblen West wins honors for excellence in construction

The Chirstman Company has been named 2023 General Contractor of the Year by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Greater Tennessee Chapter. The firm’s Morristown-Hamblen West project also earned an Excellence in Construction honor.

The prestigious recognition was celebrated at the Annual Excellence in Construction® (EIC) Awards and STEP ceremony on Dec. 7 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.

“These awards are a testament to our team’s dedication to excellence in every project we undertake,” said Marty Gibbs, senior vice president and general manager for the company’s operations in Knoxville. “Our commitment to quality, safety and innovation continues to drive our success in the industry, and The Christman Company appreciates the recognition from our peers.”

The EIC Awards program, renowned for highlighting the best in general and specialty contractors, recognizes outstanding achievements in innovative and high-quality construction projects in Middle and East Tennessee.

A standout achievement for The Christman Company in 2023 was Morristown-Hamblen West, a 67,000-square-foot extension of Covenant Health and Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, which won an award for Excellence in Construction. This state-of-the-art facility features an emergency room and diagnostic center, alongside medical offices, enhancing healthcare services in Morristown.

Other recent Christman projects include the Smith & Wesson headquarters in Maryville and major projects at the University of Tennessee, including the Student Union, which won an Excellence in Construction award in 2019, the Ken and Blaire Mossman Building and ongoing improvements to Neyland Stadium.

“Their exceptional work on projects like the Morristown-Hamblen West extension not only showcases their skill and expertise, but also their commitment to enhancing our communities,” said Clay Crownover, president and CEO of ABC Greater Tennessee Knoxville/Nashville.

The Christman Company also was recognized for its commitment to world-class safety performance, receiving Diamond status recognition in the Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) program. The status highlights dedication to creating a safe work environment, a core value of The Christman Company’s ethos.
