Biotechnology Center of Excellence – Alamance Community College

This higher education and research facility exemplifies a Construction Manager at Risk approach focused on early collaboration, constructability, and long-term campus value. Designed for flexibility and future expansion, the modern, light-filled building supports advanced instruction, laboratory research, and evolving academic programs. Through proactive preconstruction services and close coordination with the owner and design team, the project team effectively managed market volatility and supply chain disruptions, developing cost-saving strategies during procurement, maintaining schedule objectives, and reducing risk. The result is a future-ready academic facility that delivers high-performance learning environments while meeting owner budget, schedule, and operational goals.

Wanek School of Natural Sciences – High Point University

The Wanek School of Natural Sciences provides High Point University with a premier destination for advanced science education, research, and community engagement. The four-story facility supports biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and neuroscience programs through ultramodern laboratories and classrooms, while also housing the landmark Culp Planetarium. Despite significant architectural complexity and record-setting rainfall during construction, the Christman team leveraged BIM, creative problem-solving, and strong team communication to manage risk, maintain safety, and control costs. Through collaborative delivery and disciplined execution, the project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule, allowing the university to occupy and utilize the building a full semester earlier than anticipated.

College of Veterinary Medicine – NC State University

This specialized facility enhances NC State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine by supporting advanced translational research on large animals. Uniquely designed to function as both a holding facility and a fully equipped surgical suite, the building integrates highly controlled clinical environments with durable research infrastructure. Purpose-built to meet stringent safety, hygiene, and animal welfare standards, the facility supports complex surgical procedures while maintaining operational efficiency. Despite significant technical requirements, the project was delivered on an accelerated 14‑month schedule, providing a critical research resource within the heart of the veterinary campus.

Rams Head Center – University of North Carolina

The Rams Head Center is a highly complex, multi-use campus destination that combines dining, recreation, retail, and outdoor gathering spaces atop a 700-car parking deck designed to resemble an academic building. Delivered on a congested site with an aggressive schedule and tight budget, the project required advanced planning, detailed phasing, and extensive coordination. Preconstruction services emphasized rigorous cost analysis and value engineering, while a collaborative construction approach fostered strong alignment among university leadership, designers, contractors, and surrounding stakeholders. Despite technical challenges and specialized structural and waterproofing requirements, the project was successfully completed within budget and serves as a vibrant hub for campus life.

MEP estimators

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing are often a large portion of the project’s value. With a full team of in-house MEP estimators, we can conceptualize the MEP design in the schematic design phase of the documents to get a more accurate early estimate of the cost. No going back to your constituents for more funding or scaling back due to ballooning cost.
