Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Lab Addition

The Public Health Laboratory addition was driven by an urgent need to expand capacity and modernize facilities to support critical health functions. With emergency funding requiring swift execution, the client sought a partner who could balance speed, precision, and collaboration. The outcome was a three-story, 30,000-SF expansion delivered on schedule, seamlessly integrated with the existing facility, and equipped with spaces to enhance both laboratory performance and staff well-being.

The scope included new laboratory, office, conference, and wellness areas, along with incidental renovation to the existing structure. Early involvement in preconstruction allowed for accurate estimating, detailed scheduling, and logistical planning that kept design and construction activities aligned. To accelerate delivery, an early structural and site package was issued, while careful planning minimized disruption to ongoing operations. A standout challenge was the integration of an ultra-low temperature robotic freezer, comparable in size to a school bus, requiring precise coordination with the supplier and specialized building accommodations. The successful delivery of this project underscores innovative problem-solving, proactive planning, and teamwork in creating a vital resource for public health.
