As the centerpiece for Michigan Central’s commitment as a social enterprise to building solutions and skills at the intersection of mobility and society, Michigan Central Station’s adaptive reuse will set the future for both showcasing technology and the developing the community. Having been abandoned for 30 years, the 110-year-old Station was seriously deteriorated due to unprotected exposure to the elements.
Christman provided early, pre-purchase cost estimating and planning for the client on this project. Retained as construction manager, the team provided comprehensive preconstruction services, phased procurement, cost control, quality control and construction services.
With core and shell spaces completed, the focus now shifts to tenant space development, public space activation, hotel partnerships, site development, and layers of visioning, planning, budgeting and implementation, as well as sharing with the public the interior spaces so wonderfully restored by the best skilled trades in the country.
