Gerald R. Ford International Airport

Gateway Transformation Phase II

This project included a consolidation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) baggage screening operations into separate rooms behind the ticket counters, which provided a controlled and secure space for these operations as well as opened up the ticket hall area for more convenient passenger flow.

The project also included new ticket counters and automated baggage handling operations, and renovations to floor, wall and ceiling finishes throughout the entries, ticket hall, and walkways to passenger screening and baggage claim areas. In addition, work included new curbside additions to accommodate the airlines’ baggage service offices, restrooms, and lease space for future concessions.

As work progressed and impacts to airport operations changed, the project team identified and met each need by remaining in constant communication with airport authorities, minimizing any passenger impacts and maintaining high quality customer service. With safety and security as a top priority, the project team created mandatory project-specific safety, logistics and security programs.
