Flint Downtown Redevelopment Corporation
This theatre was once a popular type of “movie palace” that offered a formal setting designed to transport patrons to an exotic European courtyard or garden with an Italian Renaissance motif. The three-story building includes tenant spaces on the first floor, office space on the second floor, and a vacant third floor. Christman gathered a team of the most talented craftsmen and artisans to carefully restore the theatre, with great attention being paid to match original colors, design motifs and other decorative and thematic elements. The project brought the building up to date with the installation of state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, stage lighting and LED star lights in the auditorium plastered ceiling. A new marquee and blade sign on the exterior of the building was installed and balances respectful restoration with the addition of modern, cutting-edge technology. Over 1,600 new seats with cast iron side panels replicate the historical look and almost every inch of the walls and ceilings was repainted, including extensive decorative painting.
