Detroit Building Authority
This new facility supports daily fleet operations year-round—from overnight storage to maintenance and dispatch. The previous facility had become functionally obsolete, with infrastructure that lacked the capacity and functionality to meet growing service demands. The new design focused on integrated systems, improved working conditions, and streamlined operations. The result is a facility that enhances service delivery for riders and provides a safer, more efficient environment for staff. The 22-acre campus features three new buildings—administration, maintenance and vehicle storage—representing 385,000 SF. The administration building houses a dispatch center with raised floor, simulator, training room, lockers, kitchenette, fitness center and lounge. The maintenance facility features heated indoor bus storage, internal drive aisles, and 13 fully equipped service bays for both light and heavy-duty maintenance. Improvements include a parts storage system with semi-truck access, and dedicated space for bus component storage. Built to support a larger and electrified future fleet, the storage building accommodates 150 buses along with fueling, central vacuum, and wash stations. Then team delivered a solution that balances technical performance with operational resilience—ensuring the terminal remains a vital asset in supporting public mobility and expanding transit access across the region.
