Speedway Motorsports
This monumental project was spurred by the opportunity to host the historic "Battle at Bristol," the largest college football game in history. To accommodate the football field, the existing pylon-style scoreboard at midfield was replaced, and Colossus, a four-sided behemoth, now stands as a permanent fixture, adding a unique and spectacular dimension to the speedway's event experience. The construction of Colossus presented an array of challenges for the project team, given the complexities of the site, structural system, and the absence of a roof structure for traditional hanging methods. Meticulous planning and close collaboration were essential for this fast-paced project, particularly during the unpredictable winter months in northeast Tennessee. The team coordinated major crane lifts, implemented innovative safety solutions and held pre-lift meetings and huddles to ensure flawless execution.
