The 38-story Book Tower, originally constructed in 1916, and a 14-story structure formerly known as Book Building had been home to retail, office and fine dining spaces for many years before sitting vacant from 2009-2015. Today, the building is an instantly recognizable Detroit landmark. The restoration embraced century-old design and modern amenities, offering a collection of spaces for visitors to live, work, dine, celebrate and stay. The building boasts a three-story art glass rotunda within a grand entryway, adorned with more than 6,000 glass panels and 7,000 jewel cast glass ornaments, along with intricate, hand-painted plaster ceilings and bronze doors. Its fully restored exterior features 2,483 windows replicated for optimal energy efficiency, terra cotta, limestone and granite stonework, as well as 29 caryatids across the building’s restored façade. The building now consists of 229 residential apartments, 117 uniquely designed Roost apartment/hotel suites and 52,000 SF of retail, office, bars and restaurants, including an upscale event space with a skylit ballroom and exterior roof-top meeting areas.
