Architect of the Capitol

2009 Presidential Inaugural Stands

Construction of this high-profile project was performed within and adjacent to the operational U.S. Capitol, next to the Speaker’s office. Close coordination with appropriate security agencies was required throughout the construction process, with secure site procedures in place including badging and vehicle screening.

Employing a commitment to green construction, Christman coordinated with a non-profit agency to disassemble the stands and reuse the lumber after the inauguration to maximize material salvage. Marking the historical magnitude of this project, a portion of the balustrade has become an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution.
