The Arts and Sciences Center at West Shore Community College holds a 279-seat theater, faculty offices (including the office of the Vice President of Arts and Sciences), numerous classrooms, a greenhouse, and biology, chemistry and physics labs. An update was needed, and the College decided to undertake a renovation of the building to help continue to attract students in its Arts and Sciences programs, including Humanities in the Arts, Communications, Math/Science, and Social Studies.
The updates include a substantial renovation to a vacated library and two additions. The 17,500-s.f. renovation will provide general storage and work space for classroom equipment; art, photography and music classrooms; and a small gallery for student and community art displays. The 7,500-s.f. addition will consist of space for classrooms, faculty offices, and student advising; conference/lecture spaces accommodating groups of up to 100 students and faculty; two large lecture classrooms; and two new learning center classrooms. The 6,500-s.f. addition will accommodate theater support space: it will increase rehearsal space for theater and music programs, including staging space, storage space, dressing rooms, scene shop/construction space.
