Christman employed fast-track phasing to complete this multi-use facility, which needed to be completed in time for fall classes to begin. Mackinac Hall houses classrooms, case rooms, student study areas, faculty  offices, academic department offices, conference rooms, work/compressed file rooms, GIS lab, gathering spaces, a vending area, IT and other support spaces.

This project required significant site improvements, including four new floors and a penthouse. Work also consisted of adding a lower level mechanical room as well as a green roof. An 18,750-s.f. courtyard redevelopment was added late in the construction process, posing a logistical and time management challenge. The courtyard includes decorative boulder plinths, pervious concrete flatwork at gathering area, more than 20 decorative concrete columns, architrave and trellis to support vine vegetation, and stormwater reclamation tanks.

Thanks to an aggressive construction schedule and our higher education expertise of working on a busy campus, Christman was able to complete this project on budget and ahead of schedule.
