The two-phase OB Renovation for Central Michigan Community Hospital transformed the Obstetrics Unit into the Family Birthing Center. The project included constructing three new Labor-Delivery-Postpartum-Recovery (LDPR) rooms, six postpartum rooms, a new lobby area, a nursery, soil/clean utility rooms, a nurses station, a nourishment area, a family waiting lounge, antepartum testing, and a C-section room. Other upgrades to the facility included a complete replacement of the HVAC ductwork system, a new nurse call system, a new fetal monitoring system, and new finishes throughout the space.

Construction took place around a fully operational OB unit, which posed a unique challenge to the team. However, decades of healthcare construction experience and a carefully-phased construction schedule led to all work being completed on time, on budget and with minimal distraction to the hospital. Christman guaranteed that CMCH received the project they needed and that they got the most for their money.

Christman was selected to work on this project following several successful projects with Central Michigan Community Hospital. All of the previous projects took place during ongoing operations, including the Major Project Series in 1999, the Morey Cancer Center in 2005 and the Infrastructure Upgrades project in 2007.
