This new tri-level medical office building was constructed for a professional practice of approximately 30 cardiovascular disease specialists. The first floor is designed for examination, diagnostic and testing services; the second floor for administrative and staff offices and work areas; and the lower level for parking, mechanical and electrical services, data and technology services, medical record storage, and future expansion.

Among the unique architectural elements of the facility is the southeast elevation which was designed and constructed on a curve with a radius of over 700 feet. Bay windows on the ground and first levels extend up to balconies on the second level. The entire southeast elevation opens to a view of a wetlands pond and presents a major presence when viewed from the freeway.

Value analysis was performed and several solutions were accepted and implemented, including substituting cast stone for limestone, substituting a clean agent fire suppression system, reducing the size of roof-top HVAC units and ductwork, and redesigning the entire electrical system. These solutions saved the client approximately $200,000.

Before excavation could begin, the clay site required grading and sloping to divert stormwater runoff from the building area. A major challenge presented itself when an error in the building layout was discovered and all foundations in place had to be removed and replaced. Because the occupancy date was critical for West Michigan Heart Associates, no additional time could be added to the schedule. Dedication and excellent communication helped the team overcome the challenges to remain on schedule.
