Phase 1 of the project, completed by Christman in 1997, consisted of a 2,500 seat sanctuary, extensive theatre-like stage, and classrooms. Phase II consisted of more classrooms, a large formal entry lobby, a 7,000 s.f. multi-purpose room, a 3,000 s.f. chapel, and an kitchen expansion.
The multi-purpose room has a forty-foot ceiling to accommodate large wedding receptions and other gatherings in addition to sporting events such as volleyball. The high ceiling is designated to facilitate the future conversion of this area to a lobby atrium.
The addition was completed for occupancy prior to remodeling and expanding the existing kitchen/cafe area. The addition provided limited food service capacity which served the church while the kitchen was under construction.
The material excavated for a large stormwater retention pond was sold as clean fill and was removed by others, which yielded significant savings to the client.
The project was successfully completed under budget ad on schedule, despite the challenges of a harsher than anticipated Michigan winter.
